Summary: CargoNet was notified of a theft of personal protective equipment from Davenport, FL. The shipment included vital supplies for first responders. The tractor had been located by the carrier earlier that morning but the trailer was still outstanding. The trailer was equipped with a fleet GPS device that was not disabled and reporting a location in Miami, FL since the early morning hours of the day before.
Within ten minutes of report to CargoNet, CargoNet had notified the Miami-Dade Police Department Cargo Theft Task Force and Miami-Dade Police uniform patrol were headed to the area to canvas for the trailer. The trailer was located in deep brush near the ping location. The trailer had been broken into, but the cargo was intact except for one box that had been opened.
We extend our thanks to the victims and to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Central Florida Cargo Theft Task Force, Florida Highway Patrol and Miami-Dade Police Department for their support and responsiveness to this situation. The shipment, consisting of approximately $440,000 of vital medical supplies, may not have been recovered without everyone's teamwork.
